Don’t stop Believing: Steve Perry is back

"Need For Speed" Los Angeles Premiere

6 March 2014 – Hollywood, California –

In  the past week, it was announced that Steve Perry, former lead singer of Journey, is back with his first new music in the last twenty years. Perry, 69, dropped a single,”No Erasin'”  from his album TRACES  which will be released on Oct. 5.  How is that possible, you ask?

Perry was the lead singer in Journey from 1977 to 1987 and again from 1995 to 1998. His iconic voice helped the band to superstar status and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017. Steve noted that he left the band and dropped off the scene because, among other things,”my love for music had suddenly left me”. He went about his own way outside of the music world for many years. Earlier this decade, he met a woman who captured his heart,Kellie Nash. When he met Kellie, she was in remission from breast cancer. He dated Kellie for two years before cancer took her life in 2012. According to the Hollywood Reporter, he lamented,”I now deeply understand the meaning of:’It’s better to have loved and lost, than to never loved at all”

Steve Perry admits that he had bits and pieces of songs floating around in his head and would often sing them to Kelli. She encouraged  him to write them down and try to create full songs . Once she passed, he withdrew and it took some time before he found the love for music again. He began recording the album in May of 2015 at a home studio that he had built years before. In a  radio interview with Eddie Trunk on Sirius’s “VOLUME” channel,#106, he gave some credit for  the birth of the album to having his own studio. He would go in to the studio around 10 in the morning and stayed until 5 or 6 PM on the days he wanted to record. According to Steve, not having to book studio time in advance allowed him to write and record at his pace.

Don’t expect a reunion with his old band members as he felt that what they had was special at a special time. At this point in his life, he wants to do things as he has done the last twenty years, at his own pace. Check out StevePerry.com for news about the album and in the future, the possibility of a tour to support the album. Just don’t stop believing.

I have been in love with this man for the past 30 years and still I think he is a “hunk” and so very talanted. I am glad that he has chosen to continue with his music because when you have music in your soul it is such a shame to keep it hidden away. He still has so much to share. Love you Steve.
